Epic Pow Week 12/17-23

Steamboat is known for its ultra dry champagne powder, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only snow we receive. The six day storm from December 17th to 23rd was a Pineapple Express, a storm named for the high level of moisture it brings up from tropical areas like Hawaii. The storm went a bit south and buried resorts in southern Colorado, but Steamboat still made out with plenty of snow.

I spent the week riding with some great clients that I’ve been working with since my first year in Steamboat. It was the first week out with our new GoPro camera boom, an old ski pole with a GoPro mounted to it. We got some great photos and videos (you can see the photos below, video coming soon), and had a blast all week.

This was my first week teaching since returning to Steamboat a few weeks ago. I spent the previous week and a half leading training clinics for our new and returning instructors that wanted to take their AASI Level 1 Exam. This year I’m leading most of the Cert 1 Exam training in Steamboat, and this was my first rookie class. While I was out teaching this week, they were sitting their exams, and I’m stoked to report that they all passed. I’ve always enjoyed watching a student link their first turns, or land their first jump; it’s a whole new level to help train a group of instructors to pass their first certification.
